Dartford Ladies 3’s 0v5 Blackheath Ladies 4’s
By karen stevenson
Way to end the season!
With an easy drive down the A2 and a gentle breeze on the Dartford home pitch, it was time for the Ladies 4s to play their final match of the season. It was all to play for having secured the most challenging victory of the second part of the season so far the previous week; the match against Sevenoaks L7’s. Now with third place on the table within grabbing distance, BEHC L4’s began the match well prepared, warmed up and ready to score some goals! With an accidental squad of 16 thanks to our shared Wally-of-the-Week women, Leanne and Jakki, who forgot to update their availability on Pitchero, the team had plenty of subs and fresh legs to keep up the intensity required to win their final match.
As BEHC L4s dominated the opening half, shots on goal upon shots on goal were fired at the Dartford goalkeeper. Much to BEHC L4’s frustration, the high-level goalkeeper continually managed to save the perpetual array of impressive shots on target and so it was with welcome relief when Gina secured our first goal, followed by one from Sue. The first half finished 2-0 to us and so the team remained determined to build on their lead as they went into the second half
With impressive play from our defensive team of Jakki, Sarah, Sweta, Ellen and of course goalie and captain, Sandra, Dartford showed no possibility of taking the lead with very few shots on goal getting through that defensive line. Our backs were of course supported by frequent defensive and attacking runs made by our midfield players Liv, Louisa, Holly, Grace, Abi, Tasha and Freya and plenty of strong passing in progressive triangles as well as good communication in this area made for opportunities to score from our forwards Leanne, Sue, Rebecca and Gina.
With three more goals scored in the second half, one from Sweta, another from Gina and one final one from Leanne, all that was left to do was celebrate our success, crack open the fizz and pray for potential promotion from the Kent-League-Gods now that we have 3rd position in the table secured.
Special thanks must go to Anglea for umpiring the L4s all season, Sandra for captaining us all like a legend and of course the mums, dads, partners, family and friends who give up their time and come to show their support for this wonderful team every Saturday. We look forward to finding out if we have secured promotion in April time and then meeting once more at the End of Season Dinner on 11th May!
