Unlucky Bandits beaten
Blackheath Bandits suffer 3-1 knockout defeat
A brisk winters morning greeted the bandits at Avery hill for the last 16 of the tier 2 mixed championship cup.
With all the excitement of the boxing the night before it appeared there were a few weary looking faces none more so than Paddy ‘strip club ‘ Ferguson who found himself convinced he had taken his friends to a sports bar for the boxing- which turned out to be a £1 in the jar kind of venue...
The warm up consisted of some neat 2 on 1s and shots at the keeper and Zoe looked ready to start in goal already making some fantastic saves.
The game began tentively with the the bandits keeping the ball and transferring it smartly around the back . However it was long before burnt ash began to press and with their squad consisting of a mixture of their 1st and 2nd XIs it was going to be a long afternoon.
It took 20 mins for the deadlock to be broken Burnt ash broke away and found a 3 on 1 situation some clean passing lead to an easy tap in for their centre forward.
Heads held high the bandits got back to it and started to create chances one of which found Fowler at the top of the D weak side , he went for top bins and the glory finish only to come closer to hitting a scarecrow in the next field along , it was safe to say DOTD was always on the cards from this point on.
With the fluid movement in the middle from Prem, Paddy, Lucy and Karen and some scrappy trickery in the final 3rd the bandits found the back of the net from 2 yards out with a clever flick from Prem which the keeper couldn’t stop . I know what you are thinking 1. Prem managed to actually hit the ball and 2. Managed to hit the target from 2 yards out. You read it here first people miracles can happen . Half time 1-1.
The lates nights clearly took hold in the second half with tired legs all round some questionable tackles from both sides and some Semi - contact from Robbie Hughes.
Despite the movement and work rate from Jenna and Beth up top the bandits couldn’t seem to find the goal .
The more we pressed the more open we found ourselves , Burnt ash played counter attack in the second half creating wave after wave of attack . Zoe held strong though making saves left right and centre , frustrating the Burnt ash attack.
Unfortunately just like in LOTR eventually the stronghold falls.
Another counter attack saw another BA goal with a move around the bad line to the back post for a tap in . Robbie Hughes lifted his head and could only muster sorry guys I can’t mark 2 people ( not good enough ).
Paddy decided at this point to take the game into his own hands , twisting and turning towards goal whilst elegantly screaming with glee as he skipped past players . Only to get tackled just before getting into the D , clearly it wasn’t going to be his day.
As much as the bandits fought a third was conceded, a broken down short comer a scrappy fight in the D lead to the ball hitting the back board.
With 10 to go the game soon became very scrappy with BA becoming sarcastic asking what the score was , up steps Prem and clarified to their centre back ‘oh it’s 3-1 mate‘.
Fowler then sealed DOTD for being sent off for ‘chat ‘ , a comment made to his team mate about the use of the back of the stick in the BA D was deemed unacceptable by the umpire and a green card was brandished.
To add insult to injury Karen then happily informed us there were no teas.
A dreary end to a drab Sunday.
MOTM: Zoe - keeping us in it for a lot of the game
DOTD: Fowler - 'Tomahawked' nearer to side line than goal and green card
