HONOURS EVEN ONCE MORE AT COLLEGE MEADOW

A 5th draw of the season gives the 1st XI a point to prove......
The men’s 1st XI returned to the turf after a period of reflection Over the Christmas period. Buoyant with the desire to improve results from the 1st half of the season whilst still retaining an attacking and enjoyable style of play the team faced Wycombe at home after a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture.
Blackheath dominated much of the first half’s possession with Wycombe rarely threatening apart from on the break when unforced errors were made by Blackheath. From the resulting penalty corners, Blackheath’s defence stood strong and James ‘De Gea’ Cairgmyle made a number of good saves. Blackheath creates a number of opportunities but failed to show the required composure in front of goal to take the lead. The half finished goalless.
Early on in the second half Blackheath completed an excellent move down the right hand side which resulted in a penalty corner being one on the right hand side of the D. A drag flick was saved on the line unlawfully by a Wymcombe defender and the resulting penalty flick was converted.
Blackheath then had many chances to double and triple their lead from open play and penalty corners but failed to beat the Wycombe keeper. Eventually, Wycombe managed to sneak a drag flick into the Blackheath bottom corner to draw the game level.
Blackheath continued to press hard and create great opportunities, none easier than a penalty stroke which was missed by Chris Harden, but were unable to find a winner.
A very encouraging performance from the team but a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal cost 2 points this weekend.
Impressive debuts from MJ and Danyon show the strength and depth which the squad now has as its disposal.
