After a big win last week the mighty 3s travelled to Holcombe expecting a close battle. To keep their position in the league the 3s wanted to win every game possible and that started by ensuring cheap goals weren’t conceded. However in typical 3s fashion a cheap goal occurred via a crash ball falling to one of their strikers who tucked it past Sam. 1-0. However this didn’t put us down. Within a few minutes a short corner was won and was kindly tucked away by our super school boy Ollie Greenhead. 1-1. After a few more minutes of play another short corner fell to Richard Archibald who kindly lofted it past the keeper to gain a lead in the game. 2-1.
After a quick half time chat constructed and delivered by the rock at the back Derwyn Ballie saw Blackheath come out with more confident play. Both wing backs Bertie Page and Will Godsiff creating width on the wings with their electric pace. Even more pace was on show up front with Nick Surry and Toby Baldwin creating many chances, but not being put away. Nick broke the second half deadlock and found the bottom corner. 3-1. With a healthy lead in the game Blackheath pressed on and the game erupted into a messy affair. Stick tackles flying everywhere saw a very unfortunate yellow card dished out to Rikesh Patel. Down to 10 men the team didn't panic and another confident play saw Ollie turn his marker inside out and strike the ball well leaving the Holcombe keeper with no chance. 4-1. With the game in the bag the midfield held onto possession well and fizzed the ball around. Throughout the game the distribution from Rich Mills saw the Holcombe attack running around like headless chickens. The game ended 4-1.
MOM Ollie for his two goals and DOD Rikesh for his unfortunate card.
