Fiesty Fives Denied Again !!!
Victory Denied In Dying Minutes
Still high from the previous weeks performance at Folkestone, the fives took to the field. With dwindled availabilty up stepped Greg and young Tom, ready to give their all.
The message at the start of the game was simple. We have given teams too much respect, we need to start hard, dictate the speed of play, make them step up to our level. They should give us the respect !!!
And we did just that.
Hard and fast from the off. The hockey was controlled but pacey. The opposition were on the back foot and within 8 minutes the ball was rattling the backboard and the fives were running.
This was more like it.
Setting the pace, controlling the game.
Disaster !! Marden equalise !!!
Not to worry, reset, take control again.
More of the same with the fives have the majority of the play, more of the attacks and definately the least busy goalie.
No 2 squeezes in and the fives are back in front.
Can lightning strike twice ???
Marden equalise - again !!!!
The second half is more of the same.
In fact it is more of the same recipe that has been abundant all season.
The fives having the majority of the play, the majority of the attacks, the majority of the pressure but not the majority of the goals !!
With passion and committment the fives pressed on.
Captain Whitney was on the sideline, in danger of being shipped off to A and E with a "coiled up Conti" giving him grief, but relief was at hand as young Harry slips in no 3 and the fives are rightly in the lead again.
With 3 minutes to go the fives made a schoolboy error.
The passion and smell of victory took over and sense was put to the back of the shelf.
The fives kept pressing, wanting more.
Surely not ??!!
Marden equalise !!!!!!
Dick Turpin nowhere to be seen but once again victory snatched in the dying minutes !!!
As always we left the field with smiles on our faces as once again we had taken part in a fantastic game of hockey. The results have not gone in our favour, but are we having a great time !!
scorers - Paul W, Ollie P, Harry S.
MOM - Stu Mac, with added help from Granny !!!
Umpires - Mark (direct from the Bahamas) and Richard Cleall. Thank you guys - well controlled and much appreciated
After goal no 3 the "coiled up Conti" was released from the captains system. There are no long term effects from this condition, although further outbreaks are more than likely!!
