BEHC BACK ON TRACK WITH 3 POINTS
BEHC ladies 1's bounce back after last week's disappointing first loss of the season with a confident display and 4-1 win away at Maidstone.
With captain Jenny Seale calling for early goals, the team responded with good running off the ball, transferring and keeping the ball pace high from the off.
Despite consistent pressure in and around the Maidstone "D", several chances and a couple of short corners went begging but BEHC remained patient and after 25 minutes, were awarded another short corner. A well worked routine saw Jilly Lloyd's effort stopped just short of the line, but Sarah Bancroft was on hand to push the ball into the goal for BEHC's first. Further chances came and went, but the score remained a nervy 1-0 at half time.
Some rousing words of encouragement from coach Edd Thorogood meant BEHC took to the field for the second half with confidence. However Maidstone started much quicker and early in the second half, equalised from a short corner.
Not to be put off, BEHC continued to press and patiently transfer the ball around. Ceri Windsor made a great run forward from defence, hit the ball into the circle and was rewarded with a Maidstone foot and another short for BEHC. Determined to get her name on the scoresheet, this time Jilly Lloyd calmly sent the ball past the 'keeper with a great flicked effort, 2-1 BEHC.
With constant pressure from the forward line, Maidstone struggled to get out of their half, and when another attempt was intercepted by Jilly Lloyd, she passed to Sue Moore, who took an early strike from just inside the circle, smashing it passed the keeper for BEHC's well deserved third.
Another great move quickly followed and Beth Cox calmly turned in the "D" and pushed the ball into the corner of the goal, 4-1 BEHC.
BEHC earned a short corner just as time was up. Three consecutive short corners followed and ended with Vicky Pitt putting the fifth goal away, only to have it cruelly chalked off by an umpire who didn't think the ball left the "D".....
Final score 4-1. Old Bordenians up next week.
