First Game Back

It was a beautiful Saturday sunny morning, everyone had that fresh first game feeling and we were psyched, ready to make an impact.

It was a beautiful Saturday sunny morning, everyone had that fresh first game feeling and we were psyched, ready to make an impact.

The team were laden with a new mascots (thanks Henri), an entertainment manager (fantastic work Sue) and not forgetting a new manager/subs specialist/babysitter (our one and only Jen). The confidence and determination amongst the team in the warm up was inspiring and we got off to a good start.

The team started with most of the possession, it soon became apparent that this was going to be a gritty game, the goalie remained solid and impassable despite her size!

With a classic Vicky drive from the 25 line, a few sneaky moves and a quick reverse flick we were one nil up, all taking a quick sigh of relief.
The team did not lose concentration, with some fantastic moves up front and some hard work from the midfield.

There were however a few ruffled feathers from the health care workers in the team when an ambulance arrived during the first half, with a few under the breath words, it was soon forgotten.

We thankfully started the second half with fire in our bellies, thanks to the enthusiastic and tactical team chats and potentially the vintage orange halves- everybody’s favourite.

An early goal meant we were more comfortable in the match and then they just kept on coming. Including a fantastic bit of solo play from the super Sue and a well worked 1-2 from Jenna landed 2 more goals.

A brilliant team performance, fighting spirit and great movement upfront, grit, determination clean tackling and passing in the midfield and good communication, solid defence and pace (bringing the element of surprise) from the back line.

Off to a great start, the game ended 5-0, ready and raring for the next game - bring it on!
