After a winning streak, BEHC met their match at Gravesend with a result that was as miserable as the weather
It was a wet and chilly afternoon down at the ancient town of Gravesend’s Hockey Club. BE’s were totally up for it as they currently reside at top of the league.
But from the start, BE’s gave possession away to Gravesend on repeated occasions, they of course quickly capitalised on this and scored an early goal. The rain rate increased. The perplexed supporters were silenced. BE’s tried to raise their game and were rewarded by a powerful goal by Hannah Morrell from a short corner. But that ol’ generosity of soggy spirits saw too many gifted balls go to Gravesend in the
second half, inspiring them to greater heights, their score line getting fat on BE’s errors.
BE’s could not consistently compete being rescued from a quite atypical score line by the excellent Zoe Taylor, who was kept very busy, along with the defence.
It seems cruel to add insult but Captain Netty Grabham won the Thanks for Coming Award for kit calamity and Zoe Taylor won the Man of the Match for such gutsy goal-keeping.
