Blackheath and Elthamians L2 - 1 v 0 Maidstone

Whiz, Pop , Bang performance !
A win’s a win!
On a bright and cold November afternoon Blackheath 2s took on Maidstone 2s at home in a game that turned out to be as explosive and spectacular as the Blackheath Fire Works.
Blackheath got off to a rocket start pushing forward pressurising the Maidstone defence. This soon resulted in a short corner and a fantastic shot driven home by Hannah M who was wearing a thick coating of vic and a glamorous hair do!
Both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities with Caitlin doing some majestic runs on the wing and putting in some great crosses to the far post. Karen as per usual was fantastic in attack and tenacious in defence - even making a save with her knee - don’t worry she doesn’t bruise easily. We had some great shots from Robyn and Maddy.
As the match went on we lost a bit of shape and got frustrated when some umpire’s decisions went against us.
Maidstone pushed hard and gave us some scares including 4 short corners in a row but our midfield and defence stood firm. Kat was ferocious, Jeanette (“post, post, post!”) an inspirational captain, Lucy on the left wing made some crucial tackles and interceptions as did Hannah R in the middle, Nu played a blinder, Ali was a stalwart in defence and Zoe rescued us on far too many occasions!
In summary a frustrating match but a win’s a win!
POM - Dead heat between Hannah M, Maddy and Kat. Well deserved.
TFC - Emma for late arrival and fitting in a swimming gala before the match. She’s also promised to become reacquainted with the post next week.
Special mention to Nu’s mum, Amanda and the 3’s who came to support. In fact they supported us so well that the opposition asked if they could be quiet!
