Blackheath & Elthamians Ladies 2s 1 v Old Williamsonians 1
By karen stevenson
Well Hello 2019!
The team were back to full strength with a squad of 16 … first game back…. No game for 5 weeks what could go wrong?
The team were in high spirits with apre game Birthday celebration for Karen and Nat, great cake as always from Robyn (Sweet Celebration)
And we were off, and within 5 minutes off the start we struck the mark. The BE goal came from a Karen strike and an Old Willies defender kindly blew it over the line as if blowing out birthday candles ….Goal 1 - 0 to BE L2s
There were amazing link ups and down the pitch between Lucy , Kat and Hannah, feeding the ball into Amanda Panda keen as a bean to get her name on the score sheet this week. Amanda should have scored but was thwarted (great word) by the keeper getting a touch and then the ball spinning across the line, but not actually going over it – twice! Or was this the sign that the Ghost of Eltham was back for another year !
After some great communication and hard work by the defensive unit of Zoe, Kath, Nu, Nat, Hannah, Ali and Maddy which saw a great clearance of the line from Maddy during the first short corner keeping BE in the lead. BE have only let one goal in this season from defending a short corner…..
Old Wills kept coming at us and then one of their players' struck the ball towards us whizzing through the air and into the back of the net. 1v1
Half time talk and Haribo got us all fired up again, we need to work harder to eat more cake …..
BE piled on the pressure and was so close to capturing the lead again with Hannah M believing she should of scored and it was disallowed!! And now she feels like a 90 year old women !
Emma, Robyn and Nicole working hard on the forward line putting pressure after pressure after pressure. Amanda should have scored but was not her usual clinical self due to her mental pre game preparation being disrupted by a hairband crisis. 16 ladies and not a hair band to be found.
The ghost of Eltham College struck again taking not only 1 victim but 2. Emma following in the graceful moves of her mentor and hitting deck. However was out done by Karen who suffered cramp in not 1 but both calves at the same time making a spectacular exit from the pitch by bum shuffling off! Luckily her equal in the men’s club captain was there to issues first aid - massage - One club one love !
BE dug deep in anticipation of the 5 piece layered chocolate cake with chocolate cream but no official second goal came.
Game finished 1v1. First game of 2019, great start and looking forward to next week game and hopefully more cake and no ghosts !
Steps counted and Cake issued out #Happy Team
