This week saw the second women’s eleven play BBHC on their turf. We started strong from the off. However, they scored first from a short corner. Judging by the celebrations immediately following the goal the opposition were clearly relieved to get the first goal under their belts. We picked ourselves up and reacted in the best way possible. By evening up the score line, 1-1. Amanda scored from a deflection with tenacious Nicole waiting to pounce if the defender had missed it. They got another. We had many chances but their keeper did well to keep the goals out. Amanda had a chance stopped on the line by their defender after beating the keeper. Nicole and Hannah R had some great passing between themselves that cut through the defence. Emma ‘the snake charmer’ weaved around the defenders and linked up with well with Karen. Karen and Netty bounced the ball between them to insert the ball into the D.
We focused on the team talk and came out fighting again. Hannah M had a good strike from a short corner that went wide. The slightest deflection may have seen it in the goal but it was not meant to be. Hannah then scored from a short corner about minutes later. They managed to somehow get two more goals despite heroic saves from Zoe including saving a strike with her head. What a hero. When it was used, Kath, Ali and Nu transferred well around the back to change the direction of our attack and spread the ball. Kat fought every 50/50 ball and ensured that their attack did not have an easy time of it in the middle of the pitch. The short corner at the end of the game was a great chance for us and Lucy and Robyn were so close to converting. However, it was not their day.
All in all, everyone played well for each other and gave everything they had. It was a satisfying game despite the score line. Bring on next week.
Player of the match is Zoe. She has a ball shaped dent in her helmet. Enough said.
