Blackheath L2 0 v 1 Gore Court

A game of Green Triangles
The sun shied away behind the clouds as all 14 of BEHC Ladies 2nd XI stepped out onto the College Meadow astro. Eventually mustering up enthusiasm for another 3pm push back, they huddled around for a team talk, sticks in, followed by the traditional "1, 2, 3, BLACKHEATH!" war cry. Having enjoyed a sun-soaked victory vs Maidstone HC the previous week, the mood was a combination of optimism and dread as flashbacks of our last encounter with Gore Court floated in and out of our consciouses. As predicted by some, what came to pass was a game of two unbearably long halves, filled with a mixture of baffling umpire decisions (including two green cards for Blackheath) and a very physical GCHC, leaving some players in tatters (but fortunately no life-changing injuries).
As usual, the defence held strong and many attempts at goal were dissuaded and countered by the courageous Hannah M, Kath S, Ali, Nou and, of course, Zoe.
On several occasions, Nicole and Robyn L struck up a lovely 1-2 down the left wing, leaving the midfield with little to do in their wake. Emma and Karen took no prisoners, battling hard on the right wing to drive into the D, but the goals just weren't to be.
Tempers ran high as umpires continued to baffle both teams and frustration was apparent in many faces. Blackheath fought as best they could to protect the D as decision after decision kept going against them, but sadly this desperation resulted in a green card for both Lucy and Yanoulla on separate occasions, the latter resulting in a short corner that sadly sealed BEHC's fate near the end of the game.
However, the team did not lose face and no more balls crossed the line between our goal posts, leaving the team with a 1-0 defeat against one of the league's strongest sides.
Player of the match was awarded to Zoe and TFC nominations were jointly bestowed upon both green card recipients Lucy and Yanoulla.
