FIVE GOALS AND FIVE WINS FOR A FIVE-STAR TEAM!
BEHC Ladies 3's hold onto their position at the top of the table with a deserved 5-0 win against Herne Bay Ladies 3’s
Blackheath Ladies 3’s faced Herne Bay Ladies 3’s in a sunny and smoky (smoke from a nearby bonfire was fired up) October morning at Blackheath High School. Our captain Nicky Affleck could not be there in person, but her heart was present through her many encouraging messages before, during and after the game and we wanted to make her proud. After four wins, we were really excited and ready to play.
Vice Captain Emma Wreathall and Coach Rich did a great job during the pre-match talk, and from moment the whistle blew, Blackheath was the stronger team. An early goal scored from a short corner deflection by our left wing Cat Drum was a great motivation and it was soon followed by another spectacular goal scored by our right wing Amanda Sibanda. Four minutes later, Amanda drove the ball into the D scored yet another goal going past a defender and the keeper. However, it wasn't just our forwards scoring goals; our talented Helen Sadique scored from the defence line marking the fourth goal for our team!
Fantastic work from our halfs intercepting and distributing the ball back towards the forward line. Credit to our midfielders, Carmel Longley, Emma Wreathall, Ali Rodrigues, Kylie Brackenridge and Leanne Thompson brilliantly reading the game, creating lovely triangles and getting back into Herne Bay’s circle. To finish the first half, Cat Drum changed the scoreboard again, marking our fifth goal!
After a simple half time talk from coach Rich and plenty of water, we headed back into the game feeling optimistic. It was even warmer during the second half and Herne Bay had stepped up their game, but our defence, Hayley Jupp, Kate Primett and Helen Sadique made it hard for the attackers to find space. Ana, our amazing goalkeeper stopped the ball from crossing the goal line when Herne Bay midfielders made their way to our circle and tried to score their first goal. We came close during the second half, but the ball couldn’t find the net. Unfortunately, not everything was all strawberries and cream; Rosie Lovegrills popped her knee and had to stop playing while she was passionately defending (luckily, she was carried off the field in the most romantic way by loving husband)
A magnificent team performance with a lot of control asserted throughout the whole game in which all the players had their own impact on the game. We still have a long way to go, but we are looking forward to our next game versus Folkestone Optimist Ladies 4’s. Let’s keep working together and training hard for another win. It was a hot day, and these girls were on fire!
MOM went to Helen for a superb goal from the back, and DOD went to Magdalena Bertarini for playing Cinderella, looking for the person who fits into a mysterious hat from Oktoberfest and blackmailing others not to vote for her for DOD.
