A CAPTAIN'S DREAM
A 120 mile round trip took the ladies 3s to Folkestone and back for this weekends game.
Its safe to say, we haven’t had the best of luck at our Folkestone away games over the last couple of years, and the ladies were keen to ensure history didn’t repeat itself.
With 5 wins under our belt and a +25 goal difference, this game meant a lot. As much as the weeks before and the weeks that lay ahead! The one welcomed change from previous Folkestone games was the fact that the sun actually decided to shine.
With only 11 players (no subs this week!), we were given some wise words from our coach Mike Benson:
"The longer we keep the ball, the more running the other tea does. Let the ball do the work and never stop fighting"
and that's what we did with a little help from the “two days post-surgery” captain as sideline support and some cheering parents, the game was off to a great start!!!
First goal, 5 minutes in, from “top-of-the-goal-scoring-club-leaderboard” Amanda Sibanda.
Second goal from “got-myself-some-new-kit-MOTM” Emma Wreathall from the top of the D.
Third goal from “best-doctor-out-there” Juliet Laycock off the left post.
Fourth goal (and second in her lifetime) from Magui Bertarini.
Fifth goal from “fox-in-the-box” herself, Carmel Longley.
Half time and it’s 5-0 up! Bit of lucozade, few jelly sweets, a short team talk and the girls were off again to finish the next 35 minutes in true ladies 3s style!
A cheeky steal on the goalies pads and Carmel Longley makes it 6-0! And before full time Amanda Sibanda seals a hat trick with another 2 goals in the box!
A full time score of 8-0! (According to Nicole Jackson....it must be in the Lucozade! ;)
This team have talent and friendship and week in and week they take to the pitch committed to keeping the winning streak going. But more importantly than winning?!?! Each and every one of these ladies are committed to being the team mate every other team mate wants them to be!
