New season, new league for BEHC Ladies 3s!

New season, new league for BEHC Ladies 3s!

After a record breaking season, BEHC Ladies 3s are back in action on the pursuit for back-to-back promotion!

A new season means excitement levels are high but entering into a new league with unknown opposition means there is an added level of nerves! During the pre-match team talk, most players confessed to feeling nauseous for the first game, but we knew we were all in it together.

Opposition this week was Maidstone L3s for a morning game at Avery Hill campus (i.e. the pitch with a bounce!). Last season we had beaten Maidstone L4s, but not without a fight, so it was difficult to judge how the game would go.

For a Saturday morning in September it was hot, maybe too hot (10 points if you know the quote!) and start of season lack of fitness meant the game was tough to get going. Despite captain Nicky’s best efforts to have a sub plan in place, run by management Mark and Gary, more and more players were calling to be subbed meaning the players were changing at a rapid pace!

The first goal came from Maidstone, with an unfortunate rebound off the post which spun into the right corner of the goal. But we knew we were the stronger team and this was the push we needed. Battle over; BEHC began to press high and were rewarded with a few short corners. Third attempt of the legendary slip-slap-slop finally paid off with captain Nicky and Nicole performing the move impeccably!

A positive team talk at half time and a pat on the back from captain Nicky, the team knew they just needed to keep pushing in the second half and would be rewarded again.

Maidstone came out strong but BEHC returned the pressure dominating the game in the second half and with most play concentrated in Maidstone’s D. Frustratingly though, the ball just couldn’t find the back board! After 20 minutes of surrounding the goal, we were eventually rewarded with a goal with a slap from Jasmine at the top of the circle finished off by Carmel into the corner.

The score was maintained for the remaining 15 minutes and BEHC walked away with a 2-1 win! Tough game but good introduction to the new league!

WOTW to Ali for amazing defensive work and DOTD to Emma who cleverly delivered the new outfits to her parents house!
