Dominant display fails to pay dividends as Blackheath slip to 2-0 defeat

Blackheath did everything except score in a sparkling display that on any other day would have led to victory.
In the first half Blackheath found themselves a goal down before you could even blink. And from then it was all one way traffic.
Isla Thomas had two shots saved. One fell back to Evie Oakley and the other to Analivia Elkins and both times Blackheath were denied.
Then came the first of seven short corners for Blackheath but not once could the hosts find the definitive touch.
On the occasions that Burnt Ash did threaten Rebecca Anderson stood firm in midfield and failing that Amelia Couper was on hand to step in.
Just before the break Isla Thomas flashed another shot wide and Ria Bennett-Lee had another effort.
The second half was even more one sided. The hosts had 10 shots on target but the visitors' goalkeeper would not be beaten.
Ria had two shots superbly saved early on. Nell Williams was also denied after a neat turn and shot. But then on the break Burnt Ash doubled their lead. It was to be their only shot of the second half.
Blackheath upped their efforts. Their play was scintillating. Dulcie Rhodes and Orla Wyatt snuffed out any attacking threat. Ria Kamat, Harriet Gladwell and Semirah Hart under the guidance of the visionary Rebecca Anderson took control of midfield.
On the left Isla Thomas was dominate.
Meanwhile the right hand side proved increasingly fruitful. Frequently Amelia would break free from defence and feed Nell who would release Ria. Ria would then dance past the Burnt Ash defence with ease. But the luck was not there and the final touch would not fall for the hosts.
Isla Campbell had a great effort off the post and late on Ria was also denied by the woodwork.
It just was not to be for Blackheath. But this is a side that is very close to being the finished article.
At the end Nell and Ria shared the honours for player of the match.
