Regular reporter Tim Walters is on holiday – so this report will be factually correct but not as much fun!
Gravesend on Saturday at 2.45 was a very wet and cold place.
The Dynamos had expected to play a full Vets team but came up against a development squad of 7 vets and 7 juniors. For the first 60 minutes the game ebbed and flowed. However, the opposition always looked more confident and hungry for a goal. The keeper Sam Hannon kept the Dynamos in the game until a goal came in open play followed 5 minutes later by another from a short corner. The Dynamos had the will but not the legs to make a comeback.
Chris Bernard, Mark Farrant, son Tom and Louis Brown gallantly resisted for most of the match but just couldn’t quite hold out for the full 70 minutes
The Dynamos came up against 4 wily vets who defended the Dynamos frontal assault. Despite the centre being driven by David Leverton - James Elliott, Ross Ainley and Mikael were unable to finish several promising attacks. The lesson to be learned is that if you can’t get through the defence then you really have to play round them.
The game was played in a very sporting manner with neither umpires having very much to do. Maybe it was out of boredom Mark Ainley gave two green cards to the opposition, which on another day would not of happened. Fortunately, while contested by the recipients their own supporters agreed with the umpires decisions!
