Bulldogs bite as Dragons grow

The Blackheath bulldogs claimed three wins and a draw in their five matches at Colfes on Sunday to take second spot.
Fortunes didn't quite fall for the Dragons though.
They began against a superb Sevenoaks Strikers side who soared to a 6-0 win. The Strikers would win all five of the matches to win the tournament.
Isla Nisbett had one nice run but that was the sole highlight.
But improvement was to follow as the Dragons began to find their shape.
Next up was the Sevenoaks Scorers. Lyra Couper produced a superb goal Iine clearance to maintain parity. Alice Colaiacomo and Jessica Glazebrook battled hard but couldn't stop the visitors taking the lead.
Ava McLeod almost stopped the second but it was not to be. Lottie Norman had a chance to half the deficit and a third followed at the whistle.
Next up was the first of a double header against Tunbridge Wells.
Isla fired in for the hosts and it looked like the Dragons would claim a victory with Hannah Gill and Shyla Kamat growing in stature. Then against the run of play the visitors levelled. Isla came close to restoring the lead before at the end the visitors broke and scored. The 2-1 defeat was tough on the Dragons.
The last match saw the two Blackheath sides face each other.
For the Dragons Jessica was particularly impressive in defence. Lyra blossomed in midfield covering every inch of the pitch and Alice employed as a last line of defence for the first time stopped everything the Bulldogs cold throw at them
At the other end Isla was a constant threat. And the Bulldogs who had lost only once escaped a second defeat thanks only to the post.
Alice produced a superb late tackle at the death as the two sides finished with a goalless draw.

The Blackheath Bulldogs - November 2018

Blackheath Bulldogs started the tournament as they were meant to continue - with tenacity , enthusiasm and determination. First game, saw Rebecca show great attacking skills which put us in the lead and led us to a 2 -1 victory against Tunbridge Wells 1. The second game against Tunbridge Wells 2 was closer with no goals and then a great feed by Imogen and a deflection from the opposition led to an own goal. At the end of play it remained 1-0 and we were pleased to take that score. Next up we faced the Sevenoaks Strikers which was going to be a challenge. Defensively, we were just not there with getting behind our opposition quickly enough when they attacked, which saw us lose our only game of the day 3 - 0 to the Sevenoaks Strikers. We followed this game with another Sevenoaks side the "Sevenoaks Scorers" this was a match we didn't want to lose. Alice scored the only goal of the game and with huge contributions from Heidi and Georgia in defence with a little bit of parental help; "Defend the goal!" "Defend the goal!" All the girls helped to stop any attempt from Sevenoaks to equalise. The final match saw all our players on the pitch - Bulldogs vs Dragons - a goalless draw to see off a fantastic morning of hockey. The children thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and a massive thank you to Vicky for her relentless enthusiasm and coaching throughout - lots of very happy bulldogs claiming their second place finish.
