St Dunstan's - Bulldogs rise to the challenge

The Undefeated Bulldogs - St Dunstan's March 2019

Under-10 girls team, the Blackheath Bulldogs, played four and won four on a breezy and damp Sunday morning at St Dunstan’s.

First up for the Bulldogs was an encounter with fellow BEHC Under-10 girls team, the Blackheath Dragons. Both teams played the match in a skilful and spirited fashion, cheered on by two sets of coaches and supporters with the final score being 8-0 to the Bulldogs. Both Amelia and Amelie scored three goals and Daisy and Heidi one each.

Next up for the Bulldogs was Burnt Ash. The visitors opened the game in a strong fashion threatening the Blackheath goal. With the well drilled and excellent Blackheath defensive unit of Olivia, Alice and Rebecca proving impossible to pass and the midfield building neat passages of play Blackheath gained the upper hand. Two quick-fire goals from Amelie and two further goals from Daisy saw the Bulldogs emerge as 4-0 winners.

The first of the two Tunbridge Wells teams was the next opposition for the Bulldogs. This match started tightly with both teams playing well and testing each other’s defences. The high energy Blackheath midfield of Heidi, Betty and Amelie was again resolute and also creative in attack, building pressure which Amelie soon converted into the only goal of the match. At the final whistle the Bulldogs were worthy 1-0 winners.

The final match was also against Tunbridge Wells. The Bulldogs determined to maintain their clean sheet and undefeated status opened up strongly with the Blackheath forwards of Daisy and Amelia working well to create opportunities. After a strong run and neat stick work Amelia scored for the Bulldogs. For the remainder of the match the whole team worked extremely hard, thwarting Tunbridge Well’s breakaway attacks to end the match 1-0 winners.

Throughout the morning the Bulldogs showed excellent sportsmanship and hockey skills. Thanks to Vicky, her fellow coaches, organisers, umpires and timekeeper for a fab morning.
