FOURS FIRST APPEARANCE

A good mix of youth and experience took to the LMG pitch to face an equally youthful opposition. The 4's welcomed some new faces to the club as well as a strong contingent from the youth section. The home side started the brighter of the two teams and put immediate pressure on the Cliftonville defence but were unable to convert any chances. As the first half progressed Blackheath took their turn to soak up some periods of pressure as the visitors found their stride with the half ending 0-0.
The youthful forward line of Holly, Robin and Abbi made some great yards in the second half with several surging runs deep into the opposition half. Combined with some very dominant play by Hannah, Helen and Michaela in the wide midfield and the skilful distribution of Ita and Cat in the centre, Blackheath did everything but score. Eventually Cliftonville hit a break and converted a good shot for a 1-0 lead. A series of defensive short corners followed but the experienced Blackheath defence stood firm and the away team were unable to score again.
A resilient Blackheath (buoyed on by Izzy and the brilliant home supporters) kept attacking and were rewarded with a late equaliser after yet another brilliant surge from the forward line with Holly being the one to score.
The decision was made (because we forgot to have a vote!) that Man Of The Match should be awarded jointly to Hannah and Holly with notable mentions to everyone else! What a fantastic team to be a part of.
