Blackheath & Elthamians Ladies 4th X1 V Dartford Ladies X1
In 794 AD Iona Rebuffed the First of Many Viking Raids
It was the final clash of the 2019 season. There was an elfy display of BE team members warming up in the early, swirly mists of Avery Hill, faces all aglow. But lo! The Spirit of Past Defeats appeared to remind them of just that, a previous defeat by Dartford! The Spirit of Past Defeats moaned loud that if they did not change their ways, BE’s would be Doomed! Doomed! So, on the whistle, a focussed BE mounted a sustained attack on the Dartford goal, but their exceedingly good keeper kept sending balls back. Then, Sue popped in a lovely goal, inciting Dartford to carry out many raids on BE’s keeper Sandra. But Iona (small island), big on intimidating defence moves and Louisa (‘renowned warrior’ in Latin) the interceptor, successfully defended the kingdom, keeping Dartford in the doldrums and inspiring Freya to score two more perfect goals.
Holly was voted ‘Holly of the Match’ for poor plastic gum retention, whilst Louisa earnt ‘Warrior of the Match’ for many, many attacks with quick retreats.
Final score a win to BE’s, 3-0.
