On a lovely sunny day and after horrific traffic, our new look side started brightly, dominating possession and looked very comfortable on the ball. One of the goals of the decade was disallowed in the first minute, but we accepted the umpires decision and got on with our game like true professionals. We carved open lots of good chances in the first 15 mins, but just couldn't get the ball in, Dave Lawerence diving to deflect his brothers reverse stick cross being the pick of the bunch. So, open play not working for us, time to win a corner - 1 nil, Mike with a bullet off the top.
With our new signings bedding in nicely, the flowing hockey continued but the moment victory was ours was when Eddy got cut above the eye, when a man draws blood for the team, you always win. We cruised to 4 nil, with Dave Lawerence scoring the goal of the match, diving in at the back post to round off some crisp passing. Gore court sprang into life and had plenty of chances, but our defence held strong and a man of the match performance from Freddy at centre back was truly deserved. Many thanks to Nathan in goal, who saved magnificently many times and was off his line like a sweeper keeper.
Teas back at Gore court were magnificent, as was their hospitality and we look forward to going back there again this season in the league. Big Training week this week, with another double session to sharpen our wits.
