Men's 1s continue their pre season preparations with a convincing 6-2 win on the road.

It was the first time for a number of years BOE had the delight of travelling to the Linford Christie Stadium to play PHC Chiswick Hockey Club. They were a team who did well in the corresponding MBBO Regional 1 Divison last year and a tough game was expected in this first real test of the pre-season.

On first assumptions one would expect an athletics track and sporting facility that would be up to the standard befitting the Olympic hero of 1992. Alas, this was not meant to be. But the Astro was in good shape and looked like a fast surface.

After a somewhat slow and lethargic warm up, Coach Sam Djavit urged us in the huddle to start with a high intensity and with quick movement. BOE did exactly that and from the get go created a number of clear chances. However, we were unable to put these glorious chances away. Then suddenly completely against the run of play a rebound from a short corner saw Chiswick score to go 1-0 up. Was it to be one of those days?

Fortunately it wasn't. BOE responded with 3 quick goals from Tom Archer, Dan Moore and a trademark Michael Lawrence reverse hit into the top corner. Score was 3-1 at half time.

The mission of the second half was to go again, up the tempo once more and to target another 3 goals.

BOE carried out those plans precisely and did just that. A goal from Lewis Tutssel early on continued his good start to pre season. Then Tom Archer and Michael Lawrence doubled their tallies.

Disappointingly we conceded a scrappy goal near the end as the game became open. However, one will not divulge too much on that to save the GK blushes. Final score was 6-2 to BOE.

Saturday was a good performance from the BOE 1st XI. Tireless running up top by Fergus Parker, Lewis Tutssel and James Logan, with the midfield supporting and linking up with them well. An equally good performance was led from the back by Nathan Bullens in goal and Rob Hughes.

There we have it, so far 3 wins from 3 in pre season. Another big game on Saturday at College Meadow vs Old Boy Thompson's Old Willies and by this point we will be ready for another very important season for the Club.
