One's get off to a great start........

Having had a couple of months off to relinquish the taste of Champagne from their mouths, the 1st XI started their preseason campaign with a steady 2-1 win over Brom Becks. There is plenty still to work on but with a couple of key players missing and some cobwebs to be dusted off it was always going to be a bit of a 'run out' against our local rivals. The 1st XI blooded Jake Owen (15 years old) at left back after his selection for the U16 South England side and gave Eltham College senior Aran Tawana a chance to impress. The 1's also handed debuts to Joey Presto, Nathan Bullens and Ben Stafford with 2nd XI players Edd Thorogood and Dan Moore stepping in to be given a taste of 1st team action. Seasoned vets Ben Wyatt, Rob Hughes, James Logan, Dave Lawrence, Nick Boot, Lewis Tutsell and Sam Djavit added some solidarity to the side that was being led by Skipper Tom Archer for the 1st time as former general, Luke Kellaher (knee injury) watched on.

The game went through periods of flowing hockey to fairly messy scrappy hockey. The boys showed good patience and worked hard. It is vital that these lessons are learned and the boys took the lead on 27 minutes as Lewis Tutsell bundled home after a rebound in the D. Brom becks did get back into it with a drag flick to make it 1-1 but all the while BOE were creating chances with the final pass being only a fraction out or the score could have been out of sight. The winner did eventually come as Dan Moore opened his 1's account by slapping the ball into the roof of the net, very good Danny!!!!!!

BOE will improve and with the return of influential players and some new recruits it looks like it will be a strong year for both 1's and 2's. The club will want to build on last year and push for promotion again.

A special mention to MOTM Jake Owen who had a stormer on debut.
