1st XI GET PIPPED AT THE LAST POST BY MARDEN

This past Saturday, BOE had there second home game of the season against a strong Marden russets side. The Club were looking to continue momentum with out good performance the week before.

In what was a tense and solid game of hockey throughout, Marden opened the scoring early on in the first half, after the away team applied a lot of pressure on our defence in the early passages of play.

After 20 minutes or so the game turned on it's head as we started to get into our natural rhythm. M.Lawrence and Archer both scoring drag flicks from two short corners to make it 2-1 to BOE at half time.

The second half opened up a lot with a lot of counter attacks from both sides. With 15 minutes to go BOE were still in the lead, however a couple of minutes of rash play saw Marden score 3 goals in very quick succession through a p flick and two corners, which killed the game.

BOE did end up with a consolation at the end but there wasn't enough time to get an equaliser.

In what was a solid performance for 50 minutes we were let down by some rash decision making and poor execution. We can build from these type of games and I hope it will become a catalyst to another strong away performance to Gore Court next week.

End result 4-3.
