MUCH IMPROVED BUT PIPPED AT THE POST

On Saturday, BOE had there third away game of the season to Ashford Hockey Club. The Club were looking to get a more solid performance after a disappointing draw the week before.

The game was one which was tense but despite this one where a high standard of hockey was played throughout.

After a slow start within 20 minutes we started to create more chances and get into our natural rhythm. M.Lawrence scored a great drag flick top right and we went 1-0 up. Ashford we're creating good chances but BOE were soaking up the pressure and playing it well round the back.

We were trying to play out the half however, we got caught out with two goals scored by Ashford in the final 2 minutes of the half which was rather disappointing.

The second half opened up a lot with a lot of counter attacks from both sides. Ashford took a 3-1 lead midway through the second half. After that point the Club took more control of the game and we managed to level it up with a goal from Parry and a sublime solo effort from D.Lawrence.

In what then became a tense affair ashford took the lead again with a good short corner routine. however, this was matched with a similar good routine which resulted in Wallace deflecting a corner on the right post to make it 4-4.

With 5 minutes to go the game started become somewhat chaotic. And a corner was given to Ashford and was again put away by their flicker. With only 2 minutes to go we didn't have enough time to regroup and launch another attack so the score at the final whistle was 5-4 to Ashford.

Although disappointing, It was a solid performance and one where we controlled the game from the back. We can build from these close encounters.
