1s unable to build on cup victory

The 11am push back was a blessing in disguise for the 1st XI as it allowed them to sit back and enjoy a Super Saturday of sporting action. However, an Arsenal and England win did little to compensate for the 2-0 loss that the team had suffered that morning.

It was a familiar story of holding the ball for large periods of the game and generally appearing to be the team in control. Yet for all the possession and menace, a lack of composure in the final third combined with some simple errors proved costly. Both full backs, Ben Wyatt and Luke Driscoll, had solid games getting up and down the flanks and causing headaches for Tulse Hills defence whilst Lewis Burnham and Dave Lawrence looked dangerous with some good combination play. Again, a dubious green card proved costly as the home side were able to capitalise on Blackheath being down to 10 to score a well worked deflection. That made it 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Blackheath looked short of confidence and were chasing the game hard. This led to a lack of fluency and general frustration. Tulse Hill were lucky not to give away a flick with a bad foul on Chris Harden 4 yards from the goal and this was compounded by a well worked corner routine making it 2-0. There was no faulting the boy’s efforts but it is back to the training pitch to cut down the error count in preparation for Banbury at home next weekend.
