On the back of a comprehensive Home win against Bournemouth it was imperative that the 1’s carried that momentum in a tough double header weekend with key games in both the league and the cup.
After a delightful trip on the London tube network we arrived at West Hampstead’s ground, at first glance, a Tesco’s carpark. After receiving the news there were no dugouts and the weather conditions being less than favourable preparations began slowly but there was an air of determination umungst the team. A quick warm up and the boys were ready to go.
From the off Blackheath & Elthamians dominated possession with the oppo having minimal time on the ball and not entering our 25. After some nifty skills from David Lawrence the first corner of the game was awarded to Blackheath & Elthamians . Up steps skipper Chris Harden. Goal. 1-0. Blackheath & Elthamians continued to dominated possession but there was always a threat of the counter attack goal.
Blackheath & Elthamians continued to dominate the game with many chances being created but unfortunately none made it over the line. Think Arsenal in the north London derby. Before the stroke of half term another corner. Chris steps up again. 2-0. The boys went into half time with their tails up.
The second half was a continuation of the first. Blackheath & Elthamians created many chances and had a number of corners but couldn’t convert. The oppo won 2 corners but with their flicker out of form the score remained at 2-0. Blackheath & Elthamians stayed on top with a truly dominate performance. Man of the match Tom Archer was pulling strings in the middle of the pitch all game. There were shouts of “el cerebral” (the brain) coming from the sideline. Some of the supporters getting him confused with Andres Iniesta.
Final score 0-2. A stella defensive performance from the team. Momentum continues to build as we look to do the double on London Academcials this weekend.
