COME BACK KEEPS THE RUN GOING

The sun was shining on a glorious spring day at The Meadow this past Saturday. The boys knew a tough double header laid in waiting with Staines on the Saturday followed by a cup match vs Canterbury on Sunday.

The weather seemed to drain both sides of energy in the first half. There were some strong patterns of play and both teams grew into the game. BEHC had some great opportunities but weren’t able to find the net. A counter attack ensued and a questionable flick was awarded to Staines leading the boys into 0-1 down at half time and feeling rather sorry for themselves.

Things didn’t get better immediately. A potentially killer second goal was conceded and looked to have done the job but the BEHC never say die spirit burst through and few saw what would come next. A rejuvenated Blackheath, spurred on by a fantastic run of form, a dose of self-belief and an inspired performance by Laxman Karan, would not let this deficit remain. A well worked attack resulted in a Penalty Stroke. Lax stood up and stuck it in the top left corner. The first corner of the game came 5 minutes later. On a dry deck, it wasn’t ideal for flicking, but that was no issue for The Lax. He propelled his flick to the top right hand corner with no hope for defence nor keeper to make it 2-2 with 15 to play. The boys were running on adrenaline only as a determined Mike Lawrence started to get on the ball more. His beat one, two and then three before hitting a reverse across goal for his brother to meet sliding in at the near post shortly followed by the thud of the back board. 3-2. What a goal. Comeback complete. There were hairy moments as the boys fought to protect this lead but scrambled across the line to the joy of many.

Great character was shown. Another 3 points. Be Proud, Be Worthy.
