Lewes away saw 6th (BEHC) travel to 5th in the battle of the strongest 1st XI in the division.
Injury and unavailability meant the 1st XI travelled with only 14 but that didn’t stop a slick move from the first play of the day resulting in Dave Lawrence sliding the ball underneath the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. A period of control would follow but some simple errors let Lewes back into the game and they capitalised with a neat head side deflection to make it 1-1 at half time.
The game became a messy affair in the second as it broke up and numerous fouls were committed by both sides leading to 4 second half cards. Despite some numeric advantages and multiple short corners, neither side could convert any of their opportunities and both keepers would deservedly be their respective players of the match.
A disappointing result but despite not reproducing one of their finer performances, a 1-1 draw away from home is nonetheless an important point for the 1st XI.
