BOE welcome 2nd in the league for the crunch game of the season.

BOE welcomed a strong Kings side to the Meadow on Saturday.

With the possibility of the league championship at stake, against the team who are second in the league, we knew this wouldn’t be a walk in the park.

The team were nervous, but calm in the knowledge that if we played the game we have for 90% of the season, the result would come and champagne opened.

The game began and Kings were in our face from the off, in a very similar fashion to BOE when the fixture was reversed earlier in the year.

The first goal came from the Kings Short, a deserved one after some pressure and a lack of enthusiasm from BOE.

Goals 2 and 3 from Kings came shortly after, were BOE too nervous? with passes going astray, a press that wasn’t working and an attitude that would have been more a kin to a primary school playground, BOE made hard work of the game.

The half time whistle was blown and BOE were in trouble, time to regroup, re charge and re focus.

A halftime talk from Coach Dunman, one voice and one vision.

'We are the best, but we aren’t playing like it'

The second half was off and a different BOE team stood before a clearly confident Kings side. In complete contrast to the first half, passing was slick, movement was constant and most importantly the desire to win was now there in abundance.

The first goal came via Mike Lawrence, a drag flick in the 40th minute. 30 minutes to win the league.

With that injection of a goal, a clear shift in momentum was seen, BOE were now all over a Kings side who were struggling to know get a ball out of their half with a high press from BOE.

On 50 minutes, Furgus Parker was in the right place at the right time to get a scrappy goal after some neat play from BOE.

2-3 and 20 minus left.

BOE could see the Kings guys really starting to struggle and we sensed a comeback that was worthy of a championship.

with 15 minutes left, a penetrating run from Mike Lawrence and reverse strike into the D took a deflection off a Kings stick and struck our very own Earl of Devon, Nick B H in the cheek, lots of blood and no tears gave us a short corner and Nick a trip to A&E.

Alas, Nick was not injured for no reason, Mike Lawrence stepping up to fire in the equalising goal on the day, 15 minutes to go, 3-3. Can we do it?

The next 15 minutes were played at a frantic pace, BOE searching for the winning goal but a combination of resolute play from Kings and some good saves kept the score as is.

A very odd atmosphere at the end as both teams wanted the win, but on reflection a fair result considering our abysmal first half performance.

Some good news was to come later though, with results elsewhere in the league, BOE have been guaranteed promotion, now to cap it with 1 more win the secure the title we deserve.
