After last weeks anti climax it came down to 3pm at the Meadow.
Canterbury, a team fighting relegation but always solid, we knew it was not going to be a procession to the prosecco.
Our fears where confirmed in the first 5 minutes when BOE were 0-1 down after a quick break and goal. a slap in the face of our championship dreams. gits
Anyway, if you're reading this expecting a long drawn out account of what happened, not happening. I'm hanging.
I'm still dripping in Champagne (Tesco Brut) so the result was done. 5-1.
A warm day, a great day.
Not many people are afforded the opportunity to win at hockey, or get promoted or win a league.
We deserved it, 9 months of hard work, sweat, blood and tears came down the final whistle and the realisation of a seasons work. Ha Wayyyy
My match report should talk of the goals and the glory, but the goals were a process, a process that was set in place by our Head Coach Alex Dunman, our Performance Director Ed Thorogood, our Club Captain Matt Wilde (Good Head) and of course our 1st XI Captain Luke Kellaher (Great Lad).
We won our league, we won it well.
What needs to be said is that we won it because of strength, strength of a club on the way to the top, the catalyst of the first team performances all year was the fear of the drop, a fear that was very real with a second team that is also second to none (except us), a third team that is pushing the second team. A Heathens that are above and beyond their level. A fifth team that are simply outstanding this year. All backed up by a Vets team that are quite awesome, a team I look forward to playing for in many many many many years to come.
The 1st team won the league today on paper, but the club won life and sh*t.
We were proud, we were worthy.
I look forward to the scaled down version that Matt Wilde will probably post (On your head son)
