An away cup draw is often a tough ask, and the 1st 10 minutes did nothing to dispell that notion. However BOE felt their way into the game and then started to dominate against a good Gore Court team. Following a good lay off from Edd Thorogood, Jim Morrison cantered into the area, his exquisite cross pass found Ed Bull and he duly found the bottom corner. BOE marched forward again minutes later winning a PC. A good interchange with Dan Moore saw Morrison in space and he slotted home the second. The BOE attacking wave continued as they roared forward, this time, from another PC, Thorogood found Morrison and his lofted shot was deflected into the goal by Ali Basham. BOE continued to control the game with the back 4 seeing plenty of ball in the transfer. However Gore Court did fight back, only for Ryan Bishop to pull off a number of outstanding saves. Another quick break coupled with a delightful under the arm pass from Dave Golbey (MOTM), located Edd Thorogood at the top of the D, the centre forward calmly smashing the ball into the bottom corner. One of what should have been plenty for the BOE number 10 but alas he was not so accurate for the rest of the day. 4-0 half time.
The second half saw much of the same as BOE went 5-0 to the good as another flowing move saw Ed Bull score his second and, after Thorogood had wasted 2 golden chances, Morrison tidied up for him and drag flicked a left slip in via a defender for his 2nd. With the game dead and buried Erik DeWit needlessly got himself sent off for 'chat' which allowed Gore Court back in, 6-0 became 6-1, and after a string of good saves from Bishop 6-2. The Dutchman will watch his mouth from here on in. BOE still had time for a number of other opportunities but again they were found wanting. Dave Golbey, Ders Baillie and Jack Pearson were superb throughout with Golbey just notching the MOTM award.
A great step forward after a disappointing game on Saturday, hopefully the 2's will now kick on from here with just one more friendly until the big league start vs Burnt Ash on the 5th of October. Thanks to Gore Court for their hospitality.
