Having had the summer off to think about the successes of last year the 2's returned to action against New Becs who always cause the 2's some problems. Add to the mixer the fact it was scorching hot the boys got plenty out of this game, despite the constant butchering of 3 on 1's by the forward line! It's always important to start games and seasons well and the 2's did just that with Edd Thorogood slotting home a short corner to put them 1-0 to the good. NB came back strong and equalised with a rather dubious goal that was given despite the ball being put in the net after the whistle......weird. BOE had to up their game and with the returning Andy Slack on form, debuts for Iain Mclean, Jason Loveless & Nick Surry, the squad looked a little different this year. A short corner was won and Jim Morrison did the rest with a deflection at the right post. NB came roaring back again and this time they managed to score an even more dubious goal as Erik DeWitt was struck in the midriff on the line from a strike from a short corner.......apparently we can do this now, undercuts galore at short corners, ump says its fine. The rebound was put away as Erik had treatment for his vicious injury.
Half time 2-2.
The second half was dominated by BOE but they only had one goal to show for it. A rocket of a strike from Rob Noble into the top right hand corner of the net. BOE managed to mess up a number of 3 on 1's to finish the game which saw the 2's run out comfortable winners in the end but could and should have been a whole lot more. The fitness of the boys will be brought into question next week as they take on Burnt Ash 2's, another vital part of this preseason preparations.
MOTM - Jason Loveless (great debut)
DOTD - Andy Clover ( was NB's best player!)
