BOE 2's win 2-1 at Gore Court to take all 3 points

Having been beaten for the first time in 18 months last week it was important for the 2's to bounce back with a win. Make no mistake, this performance was far from perfect but the boys dug deep to register a very important 2-1 away win. The early exchanges saw GC on the front foot with a couple of early injections into the BOE D, but thankfully the home side would find James Florence in fine form, and his fine form would continue all afternoon. The game opened up very early on with both sides afforded plenty of space in midfield. BOE would start to dominate the ball and as the forward line started to come into the game, chances would start to take front seat. Archie snuck one past the far post and several scrappy D penetrations saw GC's keeper in good form, but it would be half way through the first half when Andy Clover wobbled into the D and flicked the ball past the GC keeper, 1-0 and things would settle down.

The second came soon after as for once BOE managed to get a short corner injected and stopped, the strike on goal was saved, the follow up was destined for the net only for a GC defender to save it with his body. Stroke and Clover stepped up and roofed his second of the game. He would have a couple of chances to secure his hat trick but that sadly didn't materialise. 2-0 at half time and BOE would be keen to push home their advantage.

The second half was a more scrappy and disjointed affair but in amongst the muddle of attempted hockey BOE would put together some good moves and at times look like they were in control. As the half went on BOE became a bit more desperate to kill the game off and 3-0 would have done that but some poor finishing and missed chances meant the GC would continue to have a snif. That snif became a chance as a short corner resulted I a goal for the home side 2-1 and things were getting a fraction tense. Mike Wickenden had an outstanding game running freely down the wing but all of BOE's attacks amounted to nothing and one of the misses of the season saw Archie collect the self appointed DOTD award.

As we entered the final few minutes GC managed to gain a real grip of the game and as the clock ticked down to the final whistle a short corner was given. The first one was saved but resulted in a second corner, BOE were clinging on as the final whistle had gone and thankfully the resulting corner was cleared to the touch line and BOE had their second win of the season. A tough away day, a difficult place to go. The pitch is had work and the ball simply gets stuck under you feet with almost every touch, it was by no means perfect but BOE will be happy to walk away with the points.

MOTD: James Florence for a fantastic display in goal and for keeping us in it.

DOTD: Archie, for choosing to kick the ball after an air shot rather than sticking the ball in the back of the net.

FOOT NOTE: The league only appointed 1 umpire and so GC had to provide 1. Just a quick note to say the home umpire had a fantastic game and umpired the game very well indeed.
