An impressive first half display secures victory for a rejigged 2nd XI

With 26 players missing from the championship winning 1st and 2nd XIs from last season hats off to the captains and committee for fielding such a strong if somewhat altered 2nd XI this week.
Goldsmith Jnr once again stepped up superbly at the back to replace the absent Dutchman (he claims he was injured but suspicions are he was watching 50 shades). Dave Forsyth and Tom Cleall were welcome returns to the midfield after fantastic displays against Ashford a week earlier and young Henry Baines made his debut for the 2s and is another reminder of the strength we have coming through the ever growing youth section.
The game plan was simple use the ball, spread the play, wait for the inevitable gaps to appear and strike with vengeance.
The is exactly what the team did spreading the ball around the back and through the midfield to allow our wide midfields to get high and our left and right back to support the attacks and create a flurry of chances in the first half.
The first goal came from a great piece of counter attacking. Aran made great tackle at the edge our D calmly got his head up and picked out a pass straight to Archie on the half way line with only the CB to beat. The smart money is always on Archie outpacing any CB in our league which is exactly what he did leaving him one on one with the keeper and calmly slotted passed the advancing keeper with a neat reverse strike.
Goals from short corners have been lacking season so this week the defence decided to show the forwards how it’s supposed to be done with 3 of the defenders taking the vital roles in the short corner routine. A swift injection from Dow and a neat stop from Ders left Aran ample time to pick his spot a launch a low drag flick into the bottom right. 2-0.
After sustained pressure from Blackheath our ever improving press saw dividends with a high interception by Forsyth put Colgate in at the top of the D who muscled pasted the last defender to strike the ball past the keeper on his reverse. 3-0
The lead up to half time saw Blackheath get a little carried away and start dribbling with the ball which put unnecessary pressure on our lead and led to conceding some short corners, fortunately these were dealt with and the clean sheet remained. Half Time.
A short remind from the captain at half time that the game was not over and an emphasis on the need to return to the game plan saw Blackheath return to the pitch with the quick passing and posting up which has served us so well in the first 30mins.
Superb running up high from the forward line allowed the right and left back time and time again to play early balls down the line and bypass the entire Sevenoaks defence, alas no more goals but the damage had already been done 3 goals to the good and a clean sheet to boot.
DotD; decided fairly unanimously for the usually calming influence that is Dow having a rare outburst after taking a vicious right hook (artistic license may have been employed here).
MotM: Aran, outstanding all match and a fantastic goal.
