Spoils shared in usual colourful & controversial affair.

MATCH REPORT: Dan Moore
New Beccs away has become something of a bogey fixture for the BOE 2s, with games regularly being decided by fine margins or controversial umpiring decisions. This weekend was no different as the teams shared the points following a 1-1 draw.

The game started with comfortable possession for BOEs, but some lax marking led to a break for the home side which resulted in a short corner. James Craigmyle (MOM) produced an early save of the season candidate, picking a well flicked ball with his stick that was destined for the top right corner of the goal.

Opportunities for New Becs were few and far between as Blackheath dominated both possession and chances on goal. Once again the younger members of the side in Josh Self and Jake Lamplough proved dangerous and effective outlets at wide forward, causing the home defence problems and forcing a number of good saves from the New Becs keeper.

BOE eventually went ahead through Eddy Forshaw who continues his goalscoring run, reacting quickest to a loose ball in the D following a short corner. This should have prompted the away side to kick on and control the game, but through a combination of tiring legs and a tendency to dribble too much in midfield we let the opposition back in, conceding a dubiously awarded short corner with 15 minutes left to play.

Poor umpiring contributed to a lack of discipline from both sides, but feeling hard done by after a string of decisions which went against us we found ourselves with two men in the bin towards the end of the match. As often happens at this ground we left knowing that we were the better side but still having to split the points. Still though, a good away game to get out of the way early in the season with many positives to take away. All of the back five were extremely solid and composed, with stand in skipper Rob Hughes putting in a particularly impressive performance.

MOM - James Craigmyle

Too Good - ‘that’ save, Jake’s reverse stick effort, Slacky’s ridiculous pick in midfield
Too Bad - Eddy Forshaw’s filthy language, Dan Moore’s cynical feet, Prem having his ponytail pulled, Alex’s back pass/through ball and the umpiring in general
