We journeyed down the A21 in delightfully cold and rainy weather to Sevenoaks. 3 points were crucial we all knew that. Slacky was coming as fast as he could but he wouldn't arrive till at the end of the first half. We began with the 4-2-3-1 formation we tested out last week and tireless work from Prem Marwaha and Gurpreet Purewal at CDM perfectly linked the defence of Gabe Henry Eddy F and Shep with Tristan Ed B Josh and Jake up front. Some quality passing play mixed with periods of less quality dribbling summed up the first half. Shep chucked some magnificent aerials to the forwards who ran the Oaks defence ragged up top. A fair few shorts went unconverted but we kept trying. Halftime score 0-0.
We knew we could do better. More of the same came in the first half with Alex picking everything going through him, Ed playing ball after ball through the defence and Nathan saving our skins when our alertness faltered. Eventually, on the 11th short, Eddy Forshaw pushed his way to the front of the queue and deftly flicked the ball past the keeper into the right of the net. 1-0! We continued to press and get behind them but couldn't convert the rest of our chances, including a shocker from Jake where it would've been easier to score than lift it over the bar, which he did with precision. It ended 1-0, we knew we could have done stuff better but we didn't care a win is a win.
A quality team performance with everyone stepping up to the challenge. Onwards and upwards!
Mom: Shep-quality CB performance
2 bad: Jake-we'll blame the cold for that one.
