Freak goal decides game in a dominant performance for the 2’s

In a game that could have been 5 or 6, a quite bizzare but totally legitimate goal from Oli Ivens secures 3 points and top spot for the 2’s.

Blackheath continued their pursuit of glory with a hard fought win to the newly promoted Gore Court.
The game began with Blackheath showing their dominance as early as the 2nd minute, Mike Lawrence had tested the keeper twice on the reverse in what would be a familiar story of the game.
With a constant bombardment on Gore court’s defence. Repeatedly, they huffed and puffed but couldn’t break the deadlock with multiple chances missed; the clinical element to the puzzle missing. Throughout the game, opportunities came in abundance but with members of Blackheath making calamity errors it was still 0-0. To name a few, Mayfield misses an open goal, Nick’s attempt to kick the ball into the net and Joe Allen’s attempt to score from a 20 degree angle point. A couple of errant balls past the far post saw the game at 0-0 going into half time as BE struggled to make possession and fine play translate into goals.

Halt Time 0-0

The second half was much the same, wave after wave of attack, 2 on 1’s and 3 on 2’s butchered like there was more on the way. Shooting from the base line has become a thing, with players far better set in the middle and a raft of ridiculous cards.

Then something silly. A regular ball in to the top of the D from the skipper, plenty of pace on it and an outstretched attempted reverse trap from Oli Ivens resulted in mayhem.

1) he was indeed stood both feet outside the D
2) his stick and touch were both inside the D
3) everyone in the D and the GK flapped about like their life depended on it
4) ball lands in the goal after sailing over the keepers head.

Gore Court wrongly tried to use the confusion to claim it was out of the D, it was not, goal stood.

Gore Court began to lay on the pressure through 'aerials' leading to Nathan making some audacious runs and slide tackles against the opposition’s strikers and Fergus making a game saving stop on Blackheath’s goal line. Then confusion amongst the ranks when Gurpreet’s lack of pace and agility ended up with him making a last ditch pass in his own 23 that resulted with him flat on his back like a prat. A green card placed Blackheath to 10 men, however Jade paying full attention to the game placed an additional player on the field. Quickly realising his error, he pulled off a player but it still resulted to Rob being yellow carded for 11 players on the field.

Another rarity to see was defensive titan Rob Hughes dribbling into the opposition’s D and attempting a flamboyant reverse shot.

In the dying stages of the game, Blackheath had the opportunity to make it 2-0 with Nick making a cute pass to Prem leaving him one on one with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately Prem’s flaccid attempt was easily saved.
