Hard battle but lack of passion undoes the 2s

A long drive down to Kent, made even trickier by the m20 closure! Obviously not helping the squad with one of them (Sam) turning up almost an hour late after missing his lift and having to get the train down!

A thorough warm up was executed as it was a chilly afternoon in the garden of England! Approaching the winter months the pitch was wet and the sun was low! 2 on 1’s and a small sided game got the boys ready for pushback!

The game began with blackheath pressing hard in the first ten mins so show the opposition what they were made of! Lots of interchanges in possession lead to some early chances for both teams but none were converted! After 15 minutes or so the opposition made a lucky counter attack and managed to sneak a goal in past our keeper giving them the 1-0 lead.

Blackheath not disheartened picked up their heads and battered on! Hard work from The midfield line and debutant Tom ensures blackheath we’re dominating and kept possession! Unfortunately a lack of concentration from the visitors allowed Ashford to squeeze in another goal for a 2-0 lead.

After a hearty half time team talk the boys came back into the second half all guns blazing with a new desire to win! The ball was knocked around nicely by blackheath, pass and move, pass and move! This lead to a couple of opportunities within their D which unfortunately were not able to be converted!

After battling for 25 minutes blackheath won a short corner, a well worked corner routine with a quick slip to Tom Mayfield who was composed and lifted it over the keeper to give Blackheath and fighting chance!

The last 5 minutes remained and blackheath piled the pressure on with constant attacks on their D! In the last few minutes another short corner was won by blackheath but unfortunately wasn’t converted resulting in the full time score 2-1 to the opposition! K

A well fought game and a thoroughly undeserved loss! We come back stronger next week!

MOM: Tom
