A little snow never stopped the ice road truckers and it certainly wasn’t going to stop the Men’s 2XI getting out on the pitch this morning

A brisk morning began with clearing the leftover snow on the damp pitch . Spirits were high . G made sure he got his nutritional night before game sustenance - Chicken Cottage, London Bridge. Meanwhile Nathan was worrying about the pressure he was under for his playlist.

And so we went, the boys came out with the high intensity, spreading the ball on the slick post snow pitch, it wasn’t going to be long before the first goal was scored, and then a bit of work in the middle of the park lead to an easy back post finish for Thorogood 1-0.

Tempo remained and there was some brilliant link up play between the midfield 4, the second big chance of the game came from a tidy in and out one two between Fowler and Morri, shamefully the usually cool headed Fowler felt a rush of blood to the head which lead to a large swing and miss on the reverse ultimately leading to DOD and this match report . I think even the spectators on the next field could hear the stick slicing through the air.

Not to worry though, Blackheath rallied and it wasn’t long before Oli Ivens steps up to slot possibly his 9th goal of the year from less than a yard from goal 2-0 after excellent work from the Dr.

However , The chances kept flowing and before the team knew it was 3-0 in the space of 3 mins, the third came from a rarity in any game, the ball slammed on goal only to bounce back off the post, there was Morri to mop up the scraps.

The second half started much the same as the first with high intensity, soo much so that Jade ‘the coach ‘ Bloomfield thought we had decided to start playing rugby and sent a man cruising out in to touch - Short corner. Despite the ball being hit at height (Off Target) and Rob ‘captain‘ Hughes taking one for the team to his thumb somehow the ball found the back of the net 3-1.

The fourth was a familiar sight, Dr Slack (MOTM) again the menace down the right, cutting back for Thorogood to notch his 11th goal of the season and put the game to bed.

With 5 minutes to go we managed to slot a fifth. A clinical attack down the left by chubuddy G who gave a slick pass to Fowler on the baseline, he slung the ball into the mixer only for no one to get that elusive last touch, luckily like a Taylor Swift groupie Morri was there waiting at the back door. Driving to the baseline he then whipped the ball in for a neat deflection into goal from a Blackheath stick, I’m not sure who got the final touch, but I believe it may have been a 3s player who was stepping up to the plate. However, in the end it was the build up play that summed up the goal and ultimately the day.
