2-0 up, 4-2 up........

......draw, not good enough if we have any intention of pushing the league all the way. We even spoke about it last week that when we are 2 goals to the good, we have to control the game. In every game, at 2-0 the next goal is key, 3-0 and the game is done, 2-1 and the oppo are back in it. When you have you foot on their throats, you have to finish them off. Perhaps we thought it was all too easy, I can confirm we were wrong.

The game started brightly with BOE pinging the ball about. An early D injection from Gough was deflected goalwards by Thorogood but there was not enough pace on the ball to go in. But from the resulting long corner BOE went 1-0 to the good as a bounce right to Erik Dewit resulted in the Dutchman smashing the ball bottom left and getting his first of the season on 11 minutes. BOE continued to pour forwards and on 19 mins they won their 2nd corner and Jonny Bond flicked it into the net via a defenders stick, 2-0............too easy?

Half time arrived and although BOE were a little disjointed 2-0 to the good and dominating against 2nd in the league was a good place to be. 3 minutes later, 2-2. WHAT THE???????? Almost directly from the push back BOE conceded a corner and as it was slipped to the injector he had a simple tap in at the near post, 2-1 and the about 30 seconds later BOE turned over possession and were suddenly locked back at 2-2. Response needed. BOE broke right, the ball ran free in the D, Thorogood had a shot saved, it rattled around and at the far post was Rich Booth to flick into the net, 3-2 and less than 1 minute later the ball was transferred high and round the back, Rew found Dow and the RB slipped it under the on rushing keeper for 4-2.........only 43 minutes gone but BOE were back to their half time advantage.

Having upped the intensity to get back to 4-2 BOE dropped off again and errors started to creep in, the defence was miles from the midfield and the attack were even further away. We took an age with chances, we were lackadasical with opportunities and having had 4 golden chances to go 8-2 up.........we suddenly found ourselves at 3-4 with 8 minutes to go. A seciond tap in at the right post not closed down. There was some really 'funky' umpiring going on from the home ump, ill say no more, but I will let you in on the stats.....

2ND HALF
New Becs short corners:12
New Becs corners given outside of BOE D: 6
New Becs corners given outside of the 23????: 1
Cards for BOE Defenders 0????? (HOW, if we are making big fouls worthy of a corner from outside the D, DO WE GET AWAY WITH NO CARDS???)
New Becs Goals from corners:4
New Becs corner conversion rate: 33%

If you get 12 corners in a half and 1 everytime you get into the 23 then a 33% conversion rate will do you just fine.

Sure enough as David Wells signalled 2 mins to go, another corner was given for Ders Baillie daring to miss trap the ball, didnt hit his foot, or the back of his stick, just bounced off his stick, along the floor, through his legs.....short corner.....and the final whistle was blown......what??.....no more than 20 seconds after 2 mins was agreed....BOE could easilly have used similar language to that used by the New Becs ump in the first half, however The BOE boys were immaculate in their control, on several occasions we could have lost it......we didnt, if only our play was as calm....

Sure enough from the resulting corner BOE did not concentrate.....a slip right, a reverse push and the ball rolled into the corner......4-4, felt like a defeat.

That said, the BOE boys need to take a good long hard look at themselves, we are not made of strong enough stuff at the moment. We are yet to get the balance right between confidence and over confidence. It makes the game Vs Ashford this saturday very important. We are lazy at times, we think games are won, we switch off and dont control the ball and possession when we get ahead and we simply think we can rock up and win.........well I have news for you boys, it aint going to happen. BOE should have been out of sight by HT and certainly by the time the 3rd New Becs goal went in, we have to find another gear where we are ruthless against good sides......we need to get ruthless.......and fast!

If last Saturday hasnt awoken the beast inside of this team then little will. The second time we have drawn when we should have been out of sight.........MUST LEARN FASTER!!!!!
