Archie reports on a damp encounter

After a few wrong turns, we arrive at Gore Court to be met by a locked changing room and a forgotten pair of socks, hence me doing this match report.

After a short and wet warm up, the team start on the front foot with quick interplay from the forward line, a potent mix of experience and youth featuring Hatcher, Archie and Ollie.

Archie fires the ball into Snatch with his back to goal and a defender at his back. He keeps his body between him and the defender and in a blink of an eye, takes the opportunity to fire a low early shoot at the keeper before he has time to set himself and we go 1 – 0 up.

After the first round of substitutions Raf giving the midfielders a rest and Toby joins the attack. After a prolonged period of pressure, we win a short corner.

A solid drag out from Golbey, great stop from Derwyn and Gurpreet’s great shoot the keeper kicks the ball onto a defender’s foot.

After much deliberation between the umpires as to whether the shoot was on target we are awarded the p-flick. Without hesitation young Toby steps up and dispatched the flick low to the left with the keep guessing the right direction but not getting anywhere near it.

2-0 with a few minutes till half time we keep it solid and close up shop

The Second half begins with us knowing that Gore Court are going to try and put us and some pressure.

After a few minutes, it becomes clear that Gore Court are not going to let us have it our own way like they did in the first half. The umpire warns the teams that if it gets overly physical player will be carded. A flurry of cards ensued resulting in yellows for both Ben and Rich. A couple of yellows and greens for Gore court just to keep it consistent. A few were dubious but let’s not get in to that.

The final nail in the coffin came from another short corner with Toby dragging the ball hard to the right nearly taking the defenders heads off on the line.

Gore court had a few attacks and short corners with Sam pulling off some solid saves.

We continue to play well from the back with Will and Fergus feeding the forward line down right once again breaking quickly into their D and winning a short. For some very strange reason the umpire send Archie to the half way line for breaking early forgetting that his electric pace just gets him there quicker.

The game become about keeping a clean sheet for Sam and not making mistakes that could cost us. We are keeping possession well, patiently playing the ball round the back, looking for spaces and allowing Gore court run themselves ragged.

After a solid 3-0 away win in a cold wet winter afternoon we get back to find out that Gore Court boiler has packed in and we can’t have a shower. The End.
