HEATHENS OFF TO A FLYER

Playing a new system and welcoming a lot of new (from far away NZ, Kiwis: Jessie and Alex G and near: Maze JHill, Matt G) plus old faces (and older ones on the sidelines!) to the team we dominated the first half playing a 3-1-4-2 system. However, the score remained 0-0 despite the dominance.

Changing the line up to a more conventional 4-4-2 we were put under more pressure in the second half (great defending and keeping kept it all together) but went 1-0 up from a deflection after a well worked penalty corner* from the old school wooden stick of Fenno Outen.

A few minutes later the Opposition equalised with an amazing bouncing shot to the left hand corner that just beat the full stretched Roman Buckle in goal. The pressure was now on!

With the opposition tiring we hit them hard and fast and this resulted in a fantastic reverse stick goal from Charlie Nelson after an excellent passing move from Tino, Steve Laden and Alex G. We pushed hard for a third goal but time eluded us on a very warm afternoon. The team had magnificent camaraderie and convincingly beat an Oppo 2-1 that are a league above them.

When we pass it early and play at pace we are pretty good. A fantastic show of hockey and team work by the Mighty Mighty Heathens!
