Heathens secure a well derved point vs League leaders

Heathens 1 - 1 Canterbury 5’s

#Heathens

The twitter sphere was buzzing with anticipation as Cantebury 5’s #topoftheleague arrived at the Meadow to face the #Heathens1steleven. Captain Danny was itching to lead the Heathens into battle after a couple of weeks out injured but unfortunately not even a pair of his brothers support pants could do the trick leaving him marshalling the troops from the sideline. #badback

The Heathens started well putting pressure on Kent Premier C’s early pacesetters and almost took the lead when a ball fired perfectly across the D was narrowly missed by the flying springbok Rhys Edwards at the back post #earlycontenderforDOD #whatamiss #difficultchance

The backline of Roman in nets, Cooper, Lewis (#theolderone), Stu (#McdonaldnotHorsburgh) and Brett Melville held firm and kept Canterbury limited to a few chances. #Cleansheetonthecards

After another spell of good pressure and hard work from the frontline of Toby, Mosh and Joe, the Heathens would eventually slip up. Controlling the ball from the back and trying to move it forward a mistake allowed Canterbury to sneak in and take the lead just before half time. #ourmistake #lucky #againsttherunofplay

The game heated up now with the Heathens midfield of Hall, Forsyth, Hodges, Edwards and Graham #dreamteam #lotsofrunning starting to take control and frustrate the oppo. October’s player of the month Chris Hall #sharethatchampagne burst forward only to be stopped in his tracks by an unfair challenge near the top of the D, quite literally losing his shoe in the process. The Heathens went in at half time knowing they could and should really have been on equal terms.

Fired up for the 2nd half #goodteamtalk and with some peoples hangovers subsiding #Forsythneeds tostopdrinkingonaFridaynight the team were determined to take something from the game. Both teams had a word from the umpires about not questioning decisions with the threat of a card for the next to step out of line #discipline #keepyourmouthsshut

With Joe Allen and Mosh starting to dominate the wings the goal was coming for most of the 2nd half, chances came and went and it would take a short corner for the Heathens to equalise. Lewis slipped the ball right to Forsyth who’s slap hit deflected off a Canterbury stick into the air to be parried by the Goalie before Chris Hall dispatched the rebound. #finally #reflex As the Heathens wheeled away in celebration the league leaders questioned the decision. The goal stood #equaliser #letswinthis #gooddecision

Some more Heathens pressure would result in a short corner as the final whistle blew and a last chance to take the spoils. As the men in red swarmed round the D the shot was goalbound and then just turned round the post. A great game, highly competitive which shows we can live with anyone in the league. #wewasrobbed #onwardsandupwards #letsgetpromoted
