Total domination of College Meadow saw the Heathens defeat the nemesis that prevented their promotion last season.

Working backwards - the team debrief saw how much effort and true teamwork had gone into 70 minutes of the golden game on the fact it was so difficult to award a MOTM!

The team settled comfortably into the game and absorbed all pressure caused by the opposition becoming more confident on the ball and moving it about. 10 minutes into the game J Lewis came on at sweeper and proceeded to wipe out the centre forward (Lewis senior in the crowd was heard to say "that's a my boy!"). A long pass out of defence cut the oppositions midfield and with 3 more passes a very good shot was stopped by the oppositions GK only to be swept into the goal by Andy Moore. The Heathens lifted their game and efforts and within minutes were 2-0 up with a goal from Alex Hayde.

Danny Lewis's half time talk highlighted areas to be worked on and lifted the squad to increase the effort.

The team came out fired up and started to play text book hockey, working for each other on and off the ball and with some great individual moves the Heathens were awarded a short corner that was converted by Chris Brown.

The back 4 played hard and high to keep the game out of their 25 and when things did break down battered back to retain possession. Credit has to be given to Tino and his chasing back and commitment. Brett had his winger in his pocket the whole game and gave him a true lesson in hockey and how to tackle.

The opposition pushed hard and were awarded a few short corners but were chased down and dispatched out of danger by the defensive corner team. T Cooper tried to roof one into his own goal but was denied a red face by an amazing reflex save from Roman but apart from that the opposition never looked like scoring!

The midfield and forwards pressed hard resulting in 3 more goals in quick secession scored by Chris Brown, Mike Wickenden and Andy Moore, much to the growing crowds delight. There should have been a hat full of goals with the goal being peppered with a multitude of shots but these were kept out by an amazing display of goalkeeping.

We will not mention C Brown's reverse stick shot that nearly took out a low flying plane that got him DOTD!?!

An exhibition of total teamwork and total hockey!

Well done lads! And thanks to everyone who came to support us!
