Heathens - served up cold

A new eating experience on everybodys lips
Holcombe Park, a new recruit to the Michelin star eating experience.
All hype, or was there real meat on the menu ??!!

The venue itself. As always, pristine and welcoming.
In these new covid times, still as professional as always
Sign in for the track and trace, a full one way system, meet and greet from the opposing Maitre d'with all rules and regs explained and you are made to feel fully at home and welcome.
An impressionable start.

But lets jump normal protocol and skip to the main course
A veritable plethora of curries on offer, including a vegan option, but as true heathens, the full meat chicken version was ordered by all.
Superb
Free range chicken in all its glory, Just the right amount of sauce and the correct viscosity. Nestled on a bed of wild rice. The scent of lemongrass and garlic sending the tastebuds into a frenzy before the first bite was even taken !! And then the moment of the truth. The first mouthful. And did it dissapoint ??? It certainly did not. Herbs and spices dancing on your tongue, sending the mind a whirling and clamouring for more !!
A truly delightful experience.

But what of the starter, a Michelin star cannot be awarded on a main course alone.

We opted for the double platter.
The first was the "Holcombe Hearty"
A dish containing many seasoned meats, complimented with an fast undercurrent of seasoning and finished with a crisp and clinical pallet cleansing taste. A platter that was balanced well, blended well and having been tweaked over the years, was a dish that you knew would sit well and last the changes of time. While not setting the world on fire it was a really good platter that would leave you full. It was especially nice to see the little known eastern spices "Harvey and Parminder" used to supplement this dish.

The second platter sounded promising but fell short in its delivery
"Heathens Saucy Sundae"
A blend of household traditional fruits, supplemented with newly discovered varieties, covered in a nutty sauce. All the elements were here in the dish but it just seemed a little out of balance. The taste was there but a liitle adjusment in places would make all the difference. Once the new fruits are matured more their sharpness will come through and leave that clinical fresh taste on the pallet. Overall a great dish but just needs a little tweaking. The dish was served cold, but with the nutty sauce warmed through it would be a whole lot better.!!

And there was obviously hockey !!!
The Heathens taking a 5 - 1 beating, that sounds worse than it looked !!!
with more shape in the middle and sharper finishing up front they will be a whole new dish !!!

We must thank Holcombe for providing 2 umpires who were outstanding !!! They kept the game flowing, explained their decisions, were firm when needed and really did not miss much at all. thank you gents that was awesome !!

Scorer - Dave Golbey
MOTM - by a country mile - Tom Gill (young Tom)

Are they worthy of the Michelin star ??
I believe so.

But beware of the return. This platter has a lot more to offer !!!
