BOE Vets 1 BOE 5th's 3
Another glorious day at college meadow saw the next instalment of the fives versus vets saga. It started very jovially with both sides sharing dugouts. This changed fairly rapidly with the 2 sides separating and preparing for business.
The first half was very evenly matched, with the vets probably having a slightly greater share of the play and more pressure around the D. With Ders marshalling the back, the daunting figure of Phil Goode in the middle and Richard Cleall playing out of his skin the vets took a deserved 1-0 lead into the break.
But it's a game of 2 halves.
Injuries for the vets and the greater fitness of the fives told a different story in the second half. The ball was played around efficiently from side to side stretching the vets and continually piling more pressure onto their D. A body block on the line resulted in a flick, whipped into the top left and it was all square. The pressure continued and soon it was 2-1 to the fives courtesy of mr Baker. A fine run through by Oli saw the ball finally nudged over the line by the new boy Max.
A couple of short corners by the vets, scorched in by mr Goode could have changed things but the safe pads of Sam were not to breached again.
Another great game and a 3-1 win for the fives.
Good luck to Stephen and the boys. With a side like that they will have a great season.
Thanks to Seneka and Andy Moore for keeping order
