A huge win over a weak side, and winners are grinners, but the performance gets mixed reviews

After waiting a good ten to fifteen minutes at 0-0, James opened the scoresheet with a weak backstick hit into the side of goal. In a positive sign of things to come, Max tried to steal the same ball mid-shot. And goal-hungry Max is good Max. 9 goals is too many to remember, so let's say that Charlie got the next one, and Max got the third. 3-0 at half time.

With such a lead, we retired our left back, and put on a centre-forward. Max ended with 6, and Charlie just short of another hat-trick on 2. We tried our best for a tenth, but it didn't come. All the goals were fantastic, with a notable shot from Max when Old W's did their old trick of flooding their defensive D. Surrounded by yellow shirts, too many sticks, and with nowhere to go, Max made a big scoop up into the top of goal, showing great thinking.

We ran with the ball straight into players, and didn't pass enough. When we did pass, it was often straight to an opposition player. Need to look for the pass early. Some saw it as "the worst the team has played" and I'm inclined to agree.

With a different view, others didn't see it this way and felt it was quite a good win and a decent performance.

Mohsin played his first game with the 5s, after several with the Heathens and Dynamos. A big thank you to David Golbey for umpiring. Both umpires put in a fine performance. Old W's didn't give up, even at 9 goals down, which was very impressive. Congratulations to Max on winning Man of the Match. Talking to the Old W's umpire after the game, he said that much of the team was from their under 16s, so we can take some comfort in knowing that we took home a bigger win than the star-studded BOE under 16s.

Next week is against Folkestone, the second placed team. It won't be so easy and we'll need everything we can get.
