Unwellcome loss adds to grave news

The omens seemed on our side. Four wins from four (including one walkover). Top of the league. 5th league game for the fantastic fives: only one outcome, surely??
No.
We could lose 5-0 instead.
Folkestone could withdraw from the league and we could lose 3 points. !!!
BBHC could withdraw from the league and we could lose 3 points !!!
And we could be left 5th in the table after one loss and 2 (but really 3 or 4...) wins.
So that's how it now is and this is how it was.

The game started at a fair pace and as usual with this fixture was a fairly opinionated affair. Trouble these days is that green cards are abundant and it wasn't long before we were facing 10 men. BOE were unable to capitalise on this, or on anything during the game to be honest and soon we found ourselves 2-0 down. A couple of short corners produced no results and we went into the break down but not out.

It just seemed one of those days. The fire and spirit was still there but not as bright as usual. A lot of final passes went begging. A lot of tackles missed. We were misreading runs and losing the ball. Short corners were wasted. It was not from a lack of effort or desire but the final product fell short. Blackheath were punished three more times in the second half leaving us 5-0 losers with a couple more cards thrown into the mix. GW were a well drilled unit with a couple of useful players up front who exploited our weaknesses on the day, but we are definitely a match for them when we are at our best.

None of us runs onto that that pitch thinking they are going to have a bad game. We all play to enjoy the game and the best enjoyment is winning. Hopefully that's it out of our system and let's get back to business. Heads up for next week.

Well done to Alex Muntus for man of the match and many thanks to Mark Ainley for taking the whistle.
